TYPOGRAPHY + PRINT DESIGN

Type Specimen

Fond of slab serifs, I chose to create a type specimen for the hybrid font Chaparral. I took this project as an opportunity to stretch some illustration muscles in a way that would showcase Chaparral's usage appropriately.

Research

To prepare the content, I researched the font's history and Chaparral forests, finding connections between the two.

I took inspiration from Field Guide notebooks and mimicked the inside covers to include information specific to the font family.

Inside the Booklet

Continuing with a Field Guide interpretation of a type specimen, I sketched letter forms to demonstrate Chaparral's unique traits. I wanted to capture moments where the font shines in body copy and captions.

Throughout the booklet, I created contrast between spreads dense with information or illustration and those with more white space.
